Today is Day 7 of me transitioning off of omeprazole after six years of a high dose. Currently at 20mg daily, down from 40mg. And last night I woke up in a fit of coughing. This is the first sign that my proton pumps are back online.
This is also probably Rebound Acid Hypersecretion. Apparently, when you quit taking omeprazole, you temporarily over-produce acid.
You could say then, that yea, omeprazole is addictive.
My first internet search results tell me this will last anywhere from a few weeks to a few months.
It’s going to be a long ride. A calendar is going to be more useful here than a clock.
