I posted an ad on FB Marketplace to give away an RC boat I didn’t need, in exchange he gifted me an RC plane. It was a fun meeting because he was my age and clearly passionate about the RC hobby. We started chatting about it and wondered why the younger generation was not into this hobby as much as ours. I shared that for my son, it’s video games that have robbed him of this kind of joy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anyways, he was really into sailboats. And he said the reason he likes RC sailboating is because: RC is meditation<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It struck me because I knew exactly<\/strong> what he meant. When I fly an RC plane, I experience serenity. There is a relaxing joy in watching a giant plane floating and drifting in the sky.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There’s something about modeling. I’m not sure what it is. But when I see a working model of something, I can feel it as if it is real. In other words, seeing a model plane floating, somewhere in my mind, I feel like I’m floating. Same is true for other things. Seeing a model of an off-road truck climbing over rocks, I feel as though I’m outdoors and driving a real car through the mountains. There’s probably a word for this phenomenon. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anyways. I’m inspired. Even looking at this old picture of my RC boat on a lake reminds me that I don’t get there often enough. I think I’ve only done it twice. I see the image and and thinking about this post makes me realize I need to change that and make it a regular occurrence. Life is too short.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
