There&#8217;s a lot of information out there but for my ADHD brain <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=N1aQX9HO8-4\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=N1aQX9HO8-4\">this was the first video I found that was the simple<\/a> and fast to get started. After watching it though, all I really needed to know was <a href=\"https:\/\/download.kiwix.org\/zim\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/download.kiwix.org\/zim\/\">a place to download ZIM files<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I didn&#8217;t download the kiwix client as suggested, because I came across <a href=\"https:\/\/ounapuu.ee\/posts\/2021\/12\/09\/self-hosting-wikipedia\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/ounapuu.ee\/posts\/2021\/12\/09\/self-hosting-wikipedia\/\">a way to do it as a server<\/a> on Ubuntu:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First install:  sudo apt install kiwix-tools<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then run the server:  kiwix-serve -p 8080 your-zim-file.zim<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And go to it in a browser:  <a href=\"http:\/\/localhost:8080\/\">http:\/\/localhost:8080\/<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"756\" height=\"335\" src=\"https:\/\/johnnycarlos.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/LocalCopyOfWikipediaUsingKiwix.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1040\" srcset=\"https:\/\/johnnycarlos.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/LocalCopyOfWikipediaUsingKiwix.png 756w, https:\/\/johnnycarlos.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/LocalCopyOfWikipediaUsingKiwix-300x133.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 756px) 100vw, 756px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>There are other ZIM files on that site I will explore at a later date.
