Luck Journal 8

More expanding my network today, Principle 1. Today I dropped into a public city meeting of one of the committees. I arrived on bicycle and happened to pull up at the same time as the mayor. We chatted for a few minutes.

Overall, I met well over dozen people. One I recognized from Rotary Club and another from open mic. They invited me to attend a non-profit spin off of the same cause. I bet this is something else I get involved with. I wouldn’t turn down the opportunity.

Oh, and this is weird. I took my wife to a doctor’s appointment at the hospital, and managed to find a parking spot right at the front door. It was straight out of a Hollywood movie, especially considering it’s a big and crowded lot. And to top it off, the space was shaded which makes it doubly exceptional on this hot, sunny day. My wife said, “Wow you’re so lucky”. And I replied, “Well, I just read this amazing book called The Luck Factor”. She laughed and nudged me. Then, I needed to leave to pick up our son. On return to the hospital to pick her up, I nabbed the same parking spot again! I’m starting to think I wasn’t joking about the book…

Also, today at work, a coworker sent me a compliment. It’s probably one of the best I’ve ever received:

I want to thank you John for your amazing support in helping get this migrated over. The support you have provided me has been the best HQ support I have gotten in a long time. I appreciate you helping explain things in a way I could grab ahold of easily and go with. Lastly, I appreciate you making the work flow as easily as possible for the stakeholder to use, and for me to manage (especially with the database sync jobs). Good job.

Thankfully, he CC’d my manager.

What a lucky day.
