The more I practice speed and rudiments, I’ve come to realize it’s my left (non-dominant) hand that’s really holding things up. So I started focusing on my left hand a few days ago. It has helped. My non-dominant hand suddenly feels more coordinated than before. But my finger tips still lack the strength, speed, agility to snap the rebound. I’m going to focus even more on just my finger tips. I hold the stick inverted and squeeze with my fingers as the stick taps my forearms. I also hold the stick normally, but horizontally, with the tip pointing behind me and repeatedly work my fingers. Doing the motion to train my fingers what it needs to do.
There are videos on YouTube describing these two positions but I dont feel like finding and linking them. I know nobody is going to be reading this looking for help with drumming. This is for my own progress logging.
So now I just walk around the house fidgeting with a single stick.
I present to you, the new ultra-ultra minimal drum practice kit…
