Modified Pomodoro Technique

I have been practicing music daily for about a couple of weeks now. My intention is to practice one hour per day. I set a timer on my phone and give myself the whole day to complete the task. Something about the timer really speaks to me…

Today it occurred to me that it’s really just a modified Pomodoro Technique. With Pomodoro, you set a timer and then commit to focused work on that task for the duration. This is similar, but I really like the way I can work on it incrementally throughout the day. There are some things that maybe I don’t want to do for 20 minutes consecutively. Like for example, doing drum strokes on just my left hand. That would be prone to injury. It’s good to take breaks in between exercises.

Conversely, I could also work on it for more than 20 minutes if I wanted. It’s Pomodoro, but more flexible…

In both scenarios, the work is focused like Pomodoro.

But in addition, the remaining time on my timer looms over me. It pushes me to complete the task.
