Without a doubt, this has to have been one of my finest ideas….
Over the last couple of days I have been talking about “getting reps in” on my non-dominant hand by just doing single strokes on a practice pad. It has helped already, even with just the few days I have been doing it. I notice I can almost twirl the stick with my non-dominant hand which I’ve never been able to do. Just too uncoordinated and awkward. I can also feel that I’m starting to develop “finger stroke” ability. Again, something I’ve never been able to do and now I see that it is coming.
It’s a game changer to just work on your bottlenecks. Isolate whatever it is that is holding you back and just work on that in a focused manner.
So… I just got this Janerock Practice Pad from Amazon for only $32.

And the real kicker here (har), what makes this the finest idea I have ever had, is that I’ve put it under my desk. Now I can pretty much practice kicks all day long! I’ve only had this thing two hours and I’ve used it for almost two hours straight.

I can’t find a single thing wrong with it. Here are the points:
- It’s cheap. Just a block of wood.
- It doesn’t wobble.
- It doesn’t get in my way.
- I can use it with either foot without moving out of my office chair.
- It’s cathartic. Even without wanting to be a drummer, I love this when I’m impatiently for something… tap tap tap tap…
Here is my first workout session:
It has exceeded my expectations. I love this thing.
