Blog Posts Instead of Morning Pages?

I’m a big fan of Julia Cameron’s Artist’s Way method of writing for 20 minutes first thing in the morning. I love it so much I just crossed 1.5 million words. I do break the rule though and write on my computer instead pen and paper. Are there really rules in life when it’s for yourself? I always say there isn’t. I do adapt things to suit me better. Anyways, during my writing session this morning it occurred to me that maybe I should adopt it to blogging? I’d have to modify the rules again though. It’s supposed to be used for stream of consciousness and that would make for awful blog material. But I could sorta make it something in between stream of consciousnesses and fully formed material. Just to be able to get in the habit of blogging every day. I think I’ll try it.

Will this stick as a habit? Probably not, but I’m willing to try. Very few things stick. Morning Pages did though so this stands a pretty good chance. Above average.

I’m almost done reading Matthew Dick’s book Storyworthy. It clicked with me instantly. Mainly because I did Toastmasters at some point in my life and that was life changing. Toastmasters was completely effective at eliminating my fear of public speaking. I now love public speaking. Storyworthy is an excellent way to generate ideas for telling stories about your life. It too is very inspirational. I may take the opportunity to share some stories during my town’s monthly open mic. In fact I came across this book while watching YouTube videos on song writing. Almost everyone at our open mic does music. We haven’t had any poetry or spoken word in over a year. It is very uncommon.

While watching random YouTube videos on song writing, I came across one that shared the idea that melodies often follow what the lyrics are about. I can’t remember their examples. But I found one in the wild! In Garth Brook’s Friends in Low Places, the lowest note is sung during the word “low”. And works his way back up to the words “I’ll be ok” that end on a higher more uplifting note (I want to say it’s a major key note because it has a happier feel to it).

Anyways. Welcome to my first post of just random thoughts. If you’re reading this, congratulations, you’re probably the only one.
