New Mantra: Be Busy

I was talking to an unemployed friend the other day. And I’ve been thinking about how I behave when I’m in between jobs. It came to me a long time ago: when you are unemployed, treat job hunting as a job. That is, wake up early, get cleaned up, and spend the next 8 hours doing things that will help you get a job. Of course I mean, searching and applying. But all the other things too like: learn a new skill, go to conferences, network with people, volunteer, read relevant books, practicing interview, polish your resume, do things that you can add to your resume. Do this stuff all day long as if it were work.

And it got me thinking, about all the time I waste staring at the phone reading political news. That, if I want to reach my life goals, I really should be using my time more wisely.

In fact, maybe I should aim for being busy all the time? Quit screwing around and be productive as much as possible.

So today, I made a list of things to do. I met with the school principal. I applied to an advisory committee for my city government. I did some gardeing. I managed to make two appointments I’ve been avoiding for months. And tonight I will attend the Friends of the Library meeting which is supposedly the most influential club in town.

On the way home I plan to pick up some more pallets to build a flow tray for scaling up milkweed farming.
